Gernandt & Danielsson was founded in 1992 when a group of partners and their colleagues left one of the largest Swedish law firms of its time and started their own business. The new firm was a relatively small player, but it soon started receiving assignments that were both big, complex, and often international. G&D offers consulting within most areas of business law, with a special focus on transactions and disputes. Today, Gernandt & Danielsson has around 110 employees, of which 75 are lawyers and of them 21 are also partners in the firm.
Before taking CSI Lawyer into use, Gernandt & Danielsson had used a different case management system for 15 years. The system had started to feel limited, and things were handled manually to too high a degree. Especially the invoicing process required many people’s involvement – the invoices were created in one system while the specifications were made elsewhere. With time the reporting possibilities that the system offered also became too limited for a law firm of G&D’s size. The company felt that they wanted to make a change and digitalize their processes, so they relied on an external consultant with knowledge of the business to help find a suitable selection of systems. During the process, different systems were mapped out and evaluated, and in the end, the choice was CSI which was regarded as well-established and thought through. CSI was suitably large both as a company and as a system, and it met the specific requirements set by G&D.
The implementation project was good and rewarding for everyone involved. Both parties had very dedicated and purposeful project teams, which made the cooperation easy. Customer specific customizations, such as integrations, invoice templates and reports, made the switch from the previous system to CSI smooth. The training sessions before Go Live were appreciated; the work could continue almost as efficiently as before despite the new system being quite unfamiliar.
For G&D, the switch to CSI has meant e.g. significantly better control over the invoicing flow. Among other things, they have succeeded in digitalizing the invoicing thanks to the preliminary invoice review process. It is also easier to follow up on the status of invoices, which makes life easier for all user groups. Among the lawyers, CSI MyDesk – the time registration app for desktop use – has been in active use. After the implementation, G&D have used quite a wide spectrum of the system’s available functionalities but there are still functions and processes in the system that are not in use. The team in charge is aware of their potential and plans to continue reviewing the use of the system as it becomes more familiar.
The good cooperation between G&D and CSI has continued after the implementation. The communication feels simple and familiar, and one dares to bring up both the positives and the things that require development.
